Roadless Comments Needed

SO HOW CAN WE MAKE OUR WILD VOICES MEANINGFUL IN THIS PROCESS? PUBLIC COMMENTS ARE DUE JULY 17.

*COMMENTS should be sent to: USDA Forest Service-CAET, Attention: Roadless Areas Proposed Rule, P.O. Box 221090, SLC, UT 84122. You can email your comments through the FS website, roadless.fs.fed.us. Or you can fax them to 877-703-2494.

*FORMAL PUBLIC HEARINGS for the Wasatch (Donna Wilson, 801-524-3900) and Ashley (Laura Jo West, 435-789-1181) will be held on June 20- Highland High School, Little Theater, 2166 S. 1700 E., SLC, 4:30-8:30 PM; and on June 27- Western Wyoming College, Meeting Room, Green River, WY, 5- 8 PM; and on June 28- Golden Age Center, 155 S. 100 W., Vernal, UT, 5- 8PM.

  1. Speak and write from your heart about the value of roadless areas. Support this effort- Alternative #4 is the best alternative as it ends both road building and logging. Point out that it has few negative impacts on the Uintas and most other areas in Utah or along the Wasatch Front. Note that it has a literal plethora of positive impacts for wildlife, watersheds, wildness-- the future!
  2. Clearly, roadless areas should be closed to logging. The impacts are tiny here in Utah and nationally.
  3. Clearly roadless areas should be closed to ATV, ORV and snowmobile use. They render roadless areas roaded and motorized!
  4. Of course, the Tongass should be part of this proposal as it is the largest, the most wild and most unique of our national forests.
